It was the Ancient Greeks and Romans who started dieting or diet. It is from the word “diatia” which focuses on controlling one’s self to eat in moderation. It was later transformed to self-denial when Christian asceticism came. Hence the word gluttony or overeating became one of the capital sins in Roman Catholicism today.
Before keto and paleo diet became popular, there was “Banting.” William Banting wrote it in 1863. His diet contains four meals in a day including greens, meat, fruits, and dry wine. Banting focuses on avoiding high calorie and high in fat foods like sugar, beer, and butter.
What is a balanced diet definition?
Using dictionary definition, a balanced diet is the combination of the correct amount and type of food that you eat. There are five food groups that a balanced diet should have:
Vegetables and legumes
Make your life colorful with a variety of vegetables. From the greens, you have beans and broccoli. Red, yellow or orange ones are tomatoes, pumpkin, and carrots. The purple team includes eggplant and cabbage. Cauliflower and potato are from the white group. Recommended intake for adults is 5-6 meals a day.
Fruits are high in fiber and vitamins. Include two pieces of fruit in your 1200 calorie diet plan every day. Avoid artificial fruit flavorings for they are high in sugar.
Cereals and Grains
Choose whole grains which are high in fiber and has most nutrients than processed ones. Best consumption amount is 3 to 6 servings per day.
Lean meat diet definition
This includes fish, chicken, tofu, egg, and legumes. These are your main source of protein and minerals. Two servings per day are already enough.
Dairy but only milk, cheese, and yogurt
They will give you calcium for your bones and other nutrients. Take up to 3 and a half servings each day.
