Good Dinners Ideas For New Year Eve

good dinners ideas

What better way to celebrate the arrival of a new year than by eating good food with friends and family? Whether you’re hosting or attending, here are some good dinners ideas for delicious dishes that will make your New Year Eve party the best one yet.

1) Bacon-Wrapped Dates:

Good Dinners

These little bites have it all – sweet fruit wrapped in salty bacon. Plus, they’re so easy to make! All you need is a package of pitted dates, a package of bacon strips (thick cut), toothpicks and an oven. Lay out three strips of bacon parallel on a cutting board and place two dates at one end closest to you on each strip. Roll up the date on each strip as tightly as possible then secure the roll with a toothpick. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and bake at 400F for 20-30 minutes or until the bacon is crispy.

2) Crab Stuffed Mushrooms:

Good Dinners

If you’re looking for more savoury finger foods, these crab stuffed mushrooms fit the bill nicely. For this recipe all you need is 12 ounces of fresh white crab meat (I like to use Chesapeake Bay), 24 large button mushroom caps, Panko bread crumbs, 1/4 cup butter, salt and pepper to taste and lemon wedges for serving. Clean the mushrooms by removing the stems and setting them aside. Then brush off outside dirt from mushrooms caps with a dry paper towel. Preheat oven to 450F then melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste then add Panko crumbs until fully coated. Fill each mushroom cap generously with crabmeat filling, top off with more panko crumbs and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

3) Crab Cakes:

If you’re looking to take advantage of fresh seafood while it’s available, these classic Maryland-style crab cakes are must try this New Year Eve! To make this dish you will need 8 ounces of cooked lump crab meat (I like using backfin), 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, salt, and pepper to taste, 1 large egg, 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Place all ingredients except for the crab meat in a large bowl then mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon until everything is fully combined. Carefully fold in the crabmeat, being careful not to break up chunks too much while handling it. Form four patties out of your mixture then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover each patty evenly with more panko bread crumbs then drizzle vegetable oil over them evenly. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top then flip carefully before returning back to oven for another 12-15 minutes or until well cooked through.

4) Crab Supreme Dip:

If you prefer things a little more creamy then try this fantastic crab supreme dip. All you need is 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon oilve oil, 1 tablespoon sour cream, 2 teaspoons fresh chopped parsley, a pinch of salt and pepper to taste and 3 ounces of cooked lump crab meat. Combine all ingredients except for the crab meat in a large bowl then mix well until fully incorporated. Gently fold in the crabmeat being careful not to break it up too much while mixing it in evenly. Serve alongside your favorite crackers or chips!

5) Vanilla-Cinnamon Cheesecake:

If you’re looking for something sweet but not super filling then this vanilla-cinnamon cheesecake will do the trick nicely. For this recipe you will need one pre-baked 9 inch graham cracker crust, 1 cup of warm water, 16 ounces of cream cheese (at room temperature), 2/3 cups white sugar, 3 large eggs (at room temperature), 4 teaspoons vanilla extract and 6 teaspoons ground cinnamon. Combine the sugar, cream cheese and two teaspoons of cinnamon in a medium bowl then mix until fully combined using an electric mixer with paddle attachment. Add one egg at a time while mixing on low speed until incorporated then add remaining ingredients except for the last four tablespoons of cinnamon.

Pour half your mixture over the crust then sprinkle four tablespoons of ground cinnamon evenly over top followed by remaining cheesecake filling. Bake uncovered on 350F for 45-55 minutes or until set in the middle. Let cool to room temperature then cover and chill for at least four hours before serving. Enjoy!
