This diet is also known as the 3-day diet. If followed sincerely, it can help one lose up to 4.5 kgs in one week. You need to follow a 3-day meal plan with 4 days off. And this cycle is supposed to be repeated again and again until the person reaches his/her desired goal. This diet plan is also known as the navy diet, army diet or even the ice-cream diet because it is quite strict, just like the lives of the military men. It is a low calorie weight loss diet that promotes weight loss in just a single week.

How Does The Military Diet Work?

For the first three days, the person is supposed to follow a low-calorie diet plan for all three meals in a day. No snacking in between is allowed. The calorie intake should not be more than 1400 calories per day. An average adult needs to take at least 2200 calories in a day. For the remaining 4 days, the person is supposed to eat healthy but maintain a low calorie intake.

The Meal Plan

Day 1

The person should consume a total of 1400 calories only throughout the day:

Breakfast:

Half grapefruit

Slice of toast with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter

A cup of coffee or tea

Lunch:

Slice of toast

Half a cup of tuna

A cup of tea or coffee

Dinner:

85 gm of meat with a cup of green beans

One apple

Half banana

A cup of vanilla ice-cream

Day 2

The person should consume 1200 calories on the second day.

Breakfast:

One hard-boiled egg

Half a banana

Cup of coffee or tea

Slice of toast

Lunch:

Cup of cottage cheese

One hard-boiled egg

5 saltine crackers

Cup of coffee or tea

Dinner:

Two hot dogs without the bun

Half a banana

Half cup of vanilla ice-cream

Half cup of broccoli and half cup of carrots

Day 3

On this day, the person is supposed to consume 1100 calories only.

Breakfast:

5 saltine crackers

One apple

1-ounce slice of cheddar cheese

A cup of coffee or tea

Lunch:

One egg

A slice of toast

A cup of coffee or tea

Dinner:

Half a banana

A cup of tuna

One cup of vanilla ice-cream

Do not add calories from sugar or cream. Drink enough water throughout the day. The remaining 4 days, the person needs to keep a check on his/her diet. You can indulge in snacking and eat any food groups you desire, but limit your portion sizes and do not consume more than 1500 calories in a day. These are some of the rules of a military diet. You can continue with the same diet plan the next week until you reach your desired goal weight.
